This project is examining key issues surrounding Wisconsin's education system, with a particular emphasis on the performance of the entire system - K-12, tech colleges and the University of Wisconsin - in helping the state meet the workforce needs of the 21st Century economy. These topics tie directly into the April 3 election for state Superintendent of Public Instruction, which will feature the two survivors of a seven-person February 20 primary.

DPI forum: 7 to 8 p.m., Friday March 23rd on Wisconsin Public Television and Radio, with a Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. replay on WISC-TV (CBS, Madison).

The recent Wisconsin Economic Summit drove home the importance of education to the state's economy - not just the "New Economy," but the existing economy and workforce.

Questions to Explore During the Series:

  • What is really meant by the "brain drain?"
  • Why doesn't Wisconsin attract its fair share of workers?
  • Why do so many students enter college courses and then drop out?
  • Is there a way to help more high school graduates try Tech College courses first?
  • What needs to happen for "returning" students to be successful?
