2009 Supreme Court Election Forum

On Friday, March 27th, We the People/Wisconsin will air a live, statewide Supreme Court forum between Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson and Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Randy Koschnick. The forum will broadcast live, statewide, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wisconsin Public Television and Wisconsin Public Radio. The debate will rebroadcast on Sunday, March 29th at 10 a.m. on Milwaukee Public Television and WISC-TV (CBS, Madison) and 5 p.m. on TVW (Madison).

Preceding the debate, citizens from across the state will have an opportunity to submit questions for the debate, posed by WTP moderators during the broadcast. Viewers and listeners will be able to “judge” the candidates as they make their case to the audience and respond to questions posed by the “jury” of statewide citizens. The candidate who wins the April 7th election will serve 10 years on Wisconsin’s highest court.

“This forum is the public’s best chance to engage the Supreme Court candidates in a discussion of the problems that may best be solved by the judicial branch. Citizens deserve an opportunity to hear the positions and ask questions of the candidates for this very important seat,” said Tom Bier, vice president/station manager of WISC-TV (CBS, Madison) and president of We the People/Wisconsin.

We the People/Wisconsin is a multi-media partnership that aims to reconnect citizens with public life through town meetings, candidate forums and citizen-based reporting. The coalition includes the Wisconsin State Journal, Wisconsin Public Television, Wisconsin Public Radio, WISC-TV (CBS, Madison), Wood Communications Group and WisPolitics.com.
